In 2017 a new year’s resolution was made that returned my attention to the ‘stirrings of my heart;’ where I would learn and use healing as a part of my own self-care practice. Healing, would also be a part of a larger fulfillment of my overarching goals of supporting and being of service to others in their personal and spiritual development and wellness journey.
Research provided me with various healing modalities, many of which I was aware of, as I'd always been tuned into alternative healing methods and practices. Feeling a real kinship to Reiki and how a significant number of practitioners also use it to develop their spiritual practice, I decided to take the Usui Reiki level I & II at the earliest opportunity.
One message that the instructor passed on to us was ‘if you don't want to change your life, don't learn Reiki’ stayed with me, and I returned home feeling excited and eager to see how my life would change, and what I would notice different about myself (if anything). Providing self-care to yourself is the most important aspect of a Reiki practice (Level I&II); giving treatment to others provides the practitioner with feedback on the experience of receiving Reiki healing energy.
I became a student member practitioner with the Canadian Reiki Association in 2017 and worked towards fulfilling the practicum requirements. Volunteer participants shared some of their experiences including being able to ‘feel the energy,’ feeling very relaxed, having a sense of great comfort and security, and one comment made, on the morning after a treatment, was that the individual woke up with greater clarity and was able to make some difficult decisions with ease and confidence. However, feedback and results come in various forms and manner and to my surprise when I gave treatments to family members I noticed that Rou (Black Lab) would lie under the healing table during the treatment and Griffy wanted to come up on the table with the participant. Not given that opportunity, Griffy (the Jack Russell) decided to lick the palm of my hands whenever I ‘turned’ Reiki on!!
In 2018 I decided I also wanted to further my learning and practice and completed Advanced Reiki Training (ART) / Master from an ICRT (International Centre for Reiki Training) Licensed Reiki Master Teacher. To that end I have now received one of the highest levels of Reiki training through a renowned teacher (Colleen Benelli), I also completed Teaching Reiki Online Training with Colleen and William of ICRT in 2020. Supported by a vast network of Reiki Practitioners and Teachers, I know I can uphold the integrity of the healing profession.
I am honoured to provide treatments to restore balance and harmony to the mind, body and spirit, and to train those on their own path of self-care, self-discovery and/or spiritual enlightenment.

Not so long ago Reiki was a ‘far out’ concept for most people, yet within a couple of decades of reaching across to the shores of North America and around the globe, we have either learned or become reacquainted with this idea of an invisible energy (“ki”) that flows through all living things, a concept that has been part of the wisdom of many cultures for thousands of years. The existence of this energy has been documented by scientific experiments, and medical doctors now consider the role it plays in the functioning of the immune system and the healing process. When our life force energy is low, it impacts our well-being and personal health. Reiki heals by knowing where negative ki exists in the person's subtle energy system. It flows to these areas, where it changes the vibration of the negative ki. This is usually done by raising the vibration until the negative ki cannot hold on to the area it is attached to and is released. Other times, the negative ki may be reprogrammed by the Reiki energy and transformed into positive ki which restores and maintains health. When the body is weak, from ongoing stress, a healing crisis or from an extended illness, Reiki can provide the body with a very nurturing supply of ki that supports the organs in their return to healthy functioning.
The 'North' has its own distinct and beautiful energy and, as I have benefited from it immensely, I want to honour the gift of Reiki that Usui Sensei was given and has passed on to us. Historically, Reiki was a sacred practice only meant to be learned by immediate family or the priesthood. Usui Sensei saw this as a travesty, and instead of keeping it to himself, he embarked on a journey to spread it to as many people as he could. As lifetime students / practitioners in awe of his work, may we always "share Reiki with the world."
For many of us, including myself, starting Reiki was the beginning of our own personal healing. Not many people I know start Reiki because they want to heal the world - they just want to heal themselves! However, there comes a time when Practitioners have the desire, and feel ready, to share these Reiki gifts with the world, and the establishment of Reiki North is my personal commitment to sharing the blessings of Reiki with anyone who hears this call of change and the call of healing!!
